Manual Physical Therapy in Norfolk, NE

Skilled hands-on care that relieves pain and restores movement.

Hands-on manual physical therapy

Manual physical therapy uses skilled, hands-on techniques — joint mobilization, soft-tissue work, and guided movement — to reduce pain, improve mobility, and jump-start your recovery. It's a cornerstone of nearly every plan of care at Norfolk Physical Therapy.

What we help with

  • Joint stiffness & restricted motion
  • Muscle tightness & trigger points
  • Neck & back pain
  • Post-surgical scar mobility
  • Headaches related to the neck

How manual physical therapy works at Norfolk PT

Manual therapy is the skilled, hands-on part of physical therapy. Using joint mobilization, soft-tissue mobilization, muscle energy techniques, and guided movement, your therapist works directly on the stiff joints and tight tissues that are limiting you. Many patients feel a meaningful change in pain and motion in the same session.

The key is what comes next. Hands-on work opens a window of better movement, and we use it right away with targeted exercise so the gains stick. That combination — skilled hands plus active rehab — is what research and decades of clinical experience support, and it's how we approach nearly every plan of care.

What to expect

  • A movement assessment to find the stiff or irritated areas
  • Gentle-to-firm hands-on techniques adjusted to your comfort
  • Immediate follow-up exercise to lock in new motion
  • Self-mobility techniques you can do at home

Manual Physical Therapy: common questions

Is manual therapy the same as massage or chiropractic care?

Manual physical therapy shares some techniques with both, but it's always part of a full rehab plan — evaluation, hands-on treatment, exercise, and education — aimed at a specific functional goal.

Does manual therapy hurt?

It shouldn't be more than mildly uncomfortable. Your therapist adjusts pressure and technique to your tolerance and checks in throughout. Some soreness the next day is normal and usually short-lived.

What conditions respond to manual therapy?

Neck and back pain, stiff shoulders, hip and knee stiffness, post-surgical scar tissue, and headaches that start in the neck are among the most common.

“Treat all patients as individuals and formulate treatment plans to reach your goals.”
