Back & Neck Pain in Norfolk, NE

Lasting relief from back and neck pain — without guesswork.

Manual therapy for back and neck pain

Back and neck pain rarely have a one-size-fits-all cause. Doug's Certificate in Mechanical Diagnosis & Treatment of the Spine (McKenzie MDT) means we pinpoint what's actually driving your pain, then give you the specific movements and strategy to resolve it and keep it from coming back.

What we help with

  • Low back pain & sciatica
  • Neck pain & stiffness
  • Herniated or bulging discs
  • Postural & work-related pain
  • Recurring, on-and-off back pain

How back & neck pain works at Norfolk PT

Most back and neck pain is mechanical — it changes with certain movements and positions. The McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) uses a structured assessment of repeated movements and sustained positions to find out exactly how your spine responds, and to identify a direction of movement that reduces or centralizes your pain.

Doug holds a Certificate in MDT from the McKenzie Institute. Once we know your pattern, you get a simple, specific plan — often just a few key exercises — plus hands-on treatment as needed and education on posture, lifting, and daily habits. Because you learn to manage your own spine, you're better equipped to head off the next flare-up.

What to expect

  • A McKenzie (MDT) movement assessment at your first visit
  • A clear explanation of what's driving your pain
  • A short list of targeted exercises, not a long generic sheet
  • Hands-on treatment when it will help
  • Strategies for work, farm chores, driving, and sleep

Back & Neck Pain: common questions

Should I see a physical therapist or get imaging first for back pain?

For most back pain without red-flag symptoms, a physical therapy evaluation is a reasonable first step and imaging often isn't needed right away. Your physician can help decide. Seek emergency care for loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the groin, or rapidly worsening leg weakness.

Can physical therapy help sciatica or a herniated disc?

Yes. Many people with sciatica and disc-related pain improve with targeted movement-based treatment. The MDT assessment helps us find movements that reduce leg symptoms and move the pain back toward the spine.

How many visits will I need for back pain?

Many patients improve within a handful of visits once we find the right movement strategy. Your plan depends on how long you've had symptoms and how your spine responds.

“Treat all patients as individuals and formulate treatment plans to reach your goals.”

— Doug Junge, PT, ATC, SCS, CSCS, Cert. MDT
