How sports therapy works at Norfolk PT
Athletes don't just need pain to go away — they need to trust their body again at full speed. Sports physical therapy starts with a detailed look at how the injury happened: your sport, your position, your training load, and the movement patterns that may have set it up. From there we build a plan that moves from calming the injury, to restoring motion and strength, to sport-specific drills that look and feel like your game.
Doug's background as a former Husker student athletic trainer, certified athletic trainer (ATC), and Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) means the strength work is real strength work — not a sheet of rubber-band exercises. Before you're cleared, we use objective return-to-sport testing (strength comparisons, hop and agility tests, and sport-specific tasks) so the decision to go back is based on data, not the calendar.
What to expect
A one-on-one evaluation of the injury and the movement behind it
A clear timeline and milestones you can track
Hands-on treatment plus progressive strength and conditioning
Communication with your physician, coach, or athletic trainer when helpful
Return-to-play testing before you're back in full competition
Sports Therapy: common questions
Do you only treat high school and college athletes?
No. We treat athletes of every age and level — youth sports, high school, college, adult rec leagues, runners, golfers, pickleball players, hunters, and anyone who wants to stay active. If your activity matters to you, we treat you like an athlete.
What does board-certified in sports physical therapy mean?
The Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) credential is awarded by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties after advanced clinical practice and a rigorous exam. Doug Junge earned it in 2005 and is the only SCS in Northeast Nebraska.
How soon can I get back to my sport?
It depends on the injury, but our goal is to get you back as fast as is safe. You'll get a realistic timeline at your first visit, and we use objective strength and movement testing — not just the calendar — before clearing you for full play.
